This exhibition is inspired by traditional Japanese designs seen in historical artefacts. In a simple yet effective way, the shapes and patterns are used to convey the hidden meaning. The images are not meant to be realistic and may not use lifelike colours. The artist has taken shapes and patterns from nature and harmonised them with a figure, in the tradition of the old masters, but with his own unique approach. His new series has seen a shift in direction, introducing shapes and patterns alongside the human form.

ARTIST PROFILE:
Yasunobu Shidami is a Japanese painter based in London who uses mainly Japanese ink, acrylic and oil paints. He has studied life drawing and life painting in London, where he has built a solid foundation of skills for his paintings. While exploring the fusion of figurative and abstract art, with the person as a subject, he is extending the potential of figurative and portrait painting.

He has exhibited in the selected group exhibition [Royal Society of Portrait Painters (RP), Royal Society of Oil Painters (ROI), Royal Society of British Artists (RBA), New English Art Club (NEAC)] in The Mall Galleries London.
