Jo Aylmer

Jo Aylmer is an artist and maker.

At present she is working with the possibilities of Parian Porcelain. She is drawn to its unglazed softness and potential for translucency.

She designs and makes Parian vessels that explore shadow, line and silhouette. This comes from an attraction to the patterns cast by even the most ordinary of natural and man-made objects as they intercept light. The work is slip cast in moulds using liquid clay. The decorative lines are applied in the mould in order to create a seamless finish. After each firing every piece is carefully refined to bring out the softness of Parian Porcelain.

Jo also create larger, one-off sculptural pieces for organisations and individuals. Each project pursues the specific qualities of porcelain such as luminosity, liquidity or fragility.
