Rie Takeda
The Neo-Japonism artist and calligrapher Rie Takeda was born in Hokkaido, in the north of Japan. She started practicing calligraphy at the age of five, under the creative supervision of her grandmother, a distinguished “GAYU-Ryu” calligrapher.
Following her art and design studies in Sapporo and London, Rie’s inspiration and enthusiasm for the new forms of art, paired with her knowledge of the traditional Japanese craftsmanship and design led her to discover the Neo-Japonism style. The artist’s past 15 years of living in Europe have been incredibly productive. As well as Neo-Japonism painting, Rie produces calligraphy artworks, Washi paper/Vintage kimono collages, illustrations, as well as Body-Art. Rie works on several projects, collaborations and exhibitions, in Japan and in Europe.
